The Renegade 2.0 and Renegade X were specifically designed from the ground up to withstand the harshest environments. By taking feedback on the original Renegade radio from snowmobile industry athletes and professionals such as Dan Adams, Matt Entz, the Boondockers, and many more, we created the X and 2.0 radio platforms. Thought was put into every element of the radio, from the button layout, the increased waterproofing and moisture proofing, user interface, and more, to make this the ultimate backcountry radio.
The entire inside face of the radio mic and speaker is sealed with a waterproof membrane to ensure the mic and speaker never freeze over. The PTT button is completely sealed so no moisture even on the coldest, deepest, wettest powder days will ever prevent the PTT button from functioning properly. Here at Oxbow, we take backcountry communication seriously, and we have created a serious radio to provide reliable communication no matter the conditions. We know that when you are in the backcountry, reliable communication can literally be the difference between life and death.
The Renegade 2.0 comes with our patented mounting system to securely attach the radio to any backpack shoulder strap. Additional mounting options are available to make sure that no matter the pack or avalanche vest, you have a mounting option to fit your needs.
The license free Renegade X radio has 22 channels with 121 sub-channels. The removable lithium ion battery and power saver technology provides for 36+ hours of use. Transmitting at the U.S. legal limit of 2 watts, the radio has line-of-site range of 25+ miles and a backcountry range of 1-5 miles. The radio also has a VOX (voice activation).

The radios are a game changer. I absolutely detest when someone pulls up with a BCA…they’re a nightmare to reprogram and they hardly work. Further, the ability to lock is essential when in the backcountry. I purchased (two) Renegade 2.0 radios in February 2024 and tested them out on February 15th. The purpose of my purchase was for back country snowmobiling but so far this year the snow is scarce in the south eastern part of Quebec, Canada. I’m located near the state of Maine border crossing. I’m surrounded by mountains and live in a valley with plenty of hills which are heavily wooded with fir and maple trees.
Test of February 15 th.
My neighbour was stationed in the sugar shack and I drove away in my car with the windows closed along a logging road which had 4 switch backs and several hills for a total of 1.4 miles the reception was excellent but as I started to go down hill again the reception faded away putting an end to my test. For as the crow flies mileage it was 1.15 miles.
I’m very pleased with the results because our boondocking distances are much closer than this test.

Really like the radio so far, easy to change channels/settings and you’re able to put it where you want it on your shoulder strap. 4 stars only because one time for some unknown reason it stopped working. We were using 3 different brands of radios, so we changed to an open channel with no “security”. At first it was working, but at a fuel stop I realized no one could hear me and I couldn’t hear them. I changed the channels back and forth and it started working again.
